Dr. Agnieszka Kuszewska-Bohnert

Dr. Agnieszka Kuszewska-Bohnertis a political scientist. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the Institute of Middle and Far East, Faculty of International and Political Studies, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, one of the oldest continuously operating universities in Europe. She is a graduate of the UN Human Rights Council Training Programme in Geneva and holds a post-graduate degree in Creative Pedagogy. She is a member of Association for Asian Studies (AAS), and European Association for South Asian Studies (EASAS). She currently serves as an expert at the Asian Observatory of the Centre for International Relations (CIR), an independent, non-governmental think tank. Her research and teaching focus on contemporary international relations, protracted conflicts, strategic cultures of Asian states, South Asia in international relations (especially India, Pakistan, and small states such as Nepal), EU-Asia relations, with a particular focus on Germany and Poland.

She has (co)-authored six books, numerous research articles, policy/expert analyses. She has published in renowned international journals such as Journal of Asian Security and International Affairs and Asian Affairs. Among others, her recent publications include a chapter “Emotional responses to the liberal world order and democratic values in Pakistan’s domestic and international political discourses”, in J. Dyduch, M. Kozub-Karkut, A. Skorek (eds.) Western and Non-Western Perspectives on Emotions in International Relations Emotional Worlds, Routledge 2026 and an article “Security, democratic values, (green) economy: Exploring the paradigm shift in Germany’s policy towards India”, in Polish Political Science Review, 2025.

In 2022-2023, Agnieszka Kuszewska-Bohnert was the Principal Investigator of the research project “Between agency and shelter: The role of ‘small powers’ in evolving international order – Nepal case study” and conducted field research in Nepal. In 2023, she held a research fellowship at Rostock University, Germany, where she carried out the project “Politics, values, (green) economy: Exploring the dynamics of Germany-India relations in bilateral and global contexts”. During the summer semester of 2024/2025, she was a visiting associate professor at the University of Greifswald, Germany, where she taught the course “India and China in international relations”. She lectured at other universities/research institutions: Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Calcutta, University of the Punjab in Lahore, Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad, Christian Forman College in Lahore, Heidelberg University, University of Leipzig, University of Tartu, Baltic Academy, Riga, Tashkent State University of Economics, University of Latvia, Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagementin Kathmandu, Leipzig Research Centre Global Dynamics and others.
